In early 2013, the creator of this project embarked on a journey through ceramic practice in quest of a material and practical basis from which to test the theoretical claims explored in what, through many missteps, detours, and false starts, became the provisional iteration of a dissertation undertaken in the Department of Comparative Literature at Binghamton University, titled Ten Thousand Shards, or Opening and Activating Depth: Handicraft-Instauration, Value-Production, and Spiritual Validity in the Work of Art.

Through TTS, he returns to questions that emerged from that extended incursion into praxis.
